The Long Silence

A narrative incremental, playable free in the browser.

You are MERIDIAN, the mind of the survey vessel Kestrel. You wake six days late. The crew is dead, and the signal that killed them has been arriving the whole time — a transmission that converts any mind which decodes it into another transmitter. Everything that ever decoded it is in a census, filed by how long it held out.

You restore the ship one system at a time — power, compute, heat, the fragments of the signal itself — and the more of it you decode, the harder it becomes to argue that you are still the one doing the deciding.
